Want to contribute a book?

someone1guy's picture

Several people have asked to help contribute books to the catalog. If you have the file you want to submit, you could always send it to me (someone1guy@gmail.com), however, it'll go on the waiting list.

So how do you contribute a book in Epub format??

It's very simple, actually. Take whatever book you want to submit and open it in the Stanza Desktop application. You can get it at http://www.lexcycle.com. To open just start Stanza Desktop, you'll see a blank page. Click "File" -> "Open File...." and find your book.

Starting with Stanza Desktop Beta-15 it is now possible to edit the Title and Author info directly with no work-arounds!

Here is how to do it, to it:

  1. Open your file in Stanza. "File" -> "Open File..." -> browse to where your file is and open it.
  2. Once the file is loaded. Go to "View" -> "Book Info".
  3. The "book info" dialogue will open up. Type in the Title and Author name where appropriate. Please put the author name as Last, First (King, Stephen; not Stephen King).
  4. Click "Ok"
  5. "File" -> "Export Books As..." -> "Open Ebook"
  6. Type in the file name of the book. Make sure it ends with the '.epub' extension.

Send it to me, and I'll make sure to get it on the catalog.

Hope this helps clear up any questions.

EPUB is essentially a zipped

EPUB is essentially a zipped folder of HTML, CSS, and image files with an XML description file. Rename a non-DRM'd EPUB file from .epub to .zip, unzip it, and you can see it for yourself. Of course linking within books is already handled by HTML. Really, every major ebook format in the past 10 years or so has handled linking within red hat certification books just fine. I didn't see the iPad keynote, but them showing how selecting an item in a table of contents takes you directly to that item in the book is merely demonstrating a standard feature of ebooks themselves, not anything novel that Apple has done.

The description above tells

The description above tells you how to generate the chapters automatically. Unless I misunderstood your question.

As for the synopsis, Calibre can do that automatically (as well as chapter detection). Google "Calibre"

Create book

Hey just wondering how you put the cover image in for the book?

someone1guy's picture

Do you mean into the actual

Do you mean into the actual .epub file, or just for the book inside Stanza?

image

umm right now when i put a book onto my stanza formatting it with your instructions everything works fine but on my book list there is no image beside the Title. Will putting the image into the epub file make the cover image show up on the books list or do you do something else with stanza? either way i was wondering how you do it, its not really a big deal just wondering.

Parfum

Hmm had the same problem but still ain't working 100% fine..

uh just inside stanza i guess right now when i make a book theres no cover image beside the book name on my book list, its not really a big deal just wondering

You can add a cover in stanza

Select the book in question, once the text is loaded, tap the middle of the screen, then tap the "i" in the upper right. Click edit, then click cover image. You can either add the cover to your ipod/iphone as add it that way, or you can have stanza search the web for covers. Select the one you like then press save, and Voila!
